Wood Giants are neutral melee mobs that spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning[ | ]

Wood Giants rarely spawn naturally in the Overworld. They will only spawn in biomes tagged as minecraft:is_forest- however the biome must not also be tagged as forge:is_snowy.

They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 0.

Behavior[ | ]

Wood Giants are neutral mobs and will not attack unless provoked.

Once provoked, they will pursue and attack their target from up to 40 blocks away. When their target gets within melee range, Wood Giants will throw their arms up into the air and crash them down, doing damage to the target if the attack connects.

Every time someone attacks the Wood Giant with a melee attack, it will lose some of its bark, and the attacker will be inflicted with some level of Bleeding for 30 seconds. If the Wood Giant is not attacked with a melee attack for 30 seconds, it will regenerate some of its bark and heal 20 (♥×10) health. The time it takes to regrow its bark increases to 35 seconds if the Wood Giant was hit with a tool that is effective at breaking Oak Logs.

The player or attacker can make the Wood Giant lose bark up to 3 times. After losing bark three times, the Wood Giant will not lose any more bark until it regrows some of it. This also means that the player can get inflicted with Bleeding 3 times, and after these 3 times, the player cannot be inflicted with Bleeding anymore unless they let the Wood Giant regrow some of its bark.

WoodStage[ | ]

The amount of bark that is missing from the Wood Giant is stored as an NBT value called WoodStage. There are 4 WoodStages for each Wood Giant - the default stage where no bark is missing (stage 0), and 3 stages for the 3 times that bark can be removed from the Wood Giant (stages 1-3). Pictures of each of the four stages are listed below. When the player or attacker makes Wood Giant lose some of its bark, its WoodStage increases by 1, and when the Wood Giant regrows some of its bark, its WoodStage decreases by 1. The maximum WoodStage value is 3, while the minimum value is 0.

The player can spawn a Wood Giant with a specific WoodStage like so: /summon aoa3:wood_giant ~ ~ ~ {WoodStage:<stage>}. <stage> is to be replaced with a number from 0 to 3. If one sets the WoodStage to a number higher than 3, it defaults to 3. If one sets the WoodStage to a number lower than 0, it defaults to 0.

Armor and armor toughness[ | ]

By default, Wood Giants have 40 armor and 50 armor toughness. They will lose armor/armor toughness when they lose bark. The amount of armor and armor toughness for each WoodStage is:

WoodStage Armor Armor toughness
0 40 50
1 25 35
2 10 20
3 0 5

Other abilities[ | ]

Wood Giant can walk over blocks and obstacles up to 1.5 blocks high.

Wood Giants cannot be pushed.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]

Wood Giants are presumably the result of a tree waking up and attending the gym while taking steroids. Not that anyone has ever seen a Wood Giant in a gym, but what else could explain their gigantic frames and bulky limbs.

Regardless, they are solitary creatures that roam the forests of the Overworld, dominating others in the area and maintaining their rule over the trees.

They seem capable of both growing and discharging their wood-like skin at will, to devastating effect on attackers. They keep a heavily-fortified and resilient form of wood armour over their body, which acts as an incredibly effective damage mitigation technique. Once sufficiently broken down with blunt-force damage however, they will violently eject the layer towards the attacker, causing intense lacerations that can easily cause a victim to bleed out. They will then begin to regrow the layer over time, restoring their natural protection and increasing their survivability.

Trivia[ | ]

  • The Raw Cod dropped by Wood Giant has a custom name of "Raw Herring", with a tooltip that says "Found wedged in the mightiest tree in the forest".
