Protect article creation?[]

Is it possible to protect article creation to only autoconfirmed users? -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 20:31, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Are you having problems with spam ? It is technically possible, but we prefer not to. — Game widow (talk) 20:32, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
An ip address has been coming on every few days and creates a spam article. Two of the four spam articles created so far have been created by the same ip address, so I figure it's the same guy each time, not 100% sure though. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 20:58, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
OK, while that is annoying, i'm not sure locking down editing is the way to go. We could temporarily block that IP address. Have you done that ? — Game widow (talk) 21:44, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Well, he's never blocked anybody on the wiki, though several vandals have come and gone (he's just reverted their edits). Maybe if we had a clearly defined ruleset (right now it's just "no this, no that", maybe you should think up penalties) he could start blocking without fear of being considered a power abuser, just not doing it right, etc. Shadowdragon25 (talk) 22:01, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Generally, if the vandalism is from an IP address, we find that blocking it for up to 2 weeks (maximum) works reasonably well. If the vandalism is from a named account, you may use your judgement and block the account up to and including an indefinite block. See the help wiki for more info — Game widow (talk) 22:04, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Okay. Still, I think that some definite ruleset that doesn't just say what not to do but also outlines penalties should be created, that way there is a standard. Our current one at Advent of Ascension Wiki:Wiki rules is literally just five bullet points that aren't emphasized enough. Finally, you should protect that rules page for admins only, right now I can hop on and edit it to say whatever I want it to.Shadowdragon25 (talk) 22:22, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

That sort of stuff is up to the community administrators — Game widow (talk) 22:59, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Ok, I guess ESfB will work something out. He is allowed to make rules based on judgment (i.e. if the links are to, say, viruses/malware or phishing sites, perm ban)?Shadowdragon25 (talk) 23:27, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

That seems reasonable to me — Game widow (talk) 10:14, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

I wasn't really able to find information about this anywhere else.....but is there a way to re-enable ads when I have Gamepedia Pro? I don't want to give up Pro. but I want the ads so I can edit around them. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 10:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Interesting point. You could create a second account, but as it stands, i don't know of any way to re-enable ads with Gamepedia Pro. I will pass along this information though as we are still gathering feedback for the next stage of development. — Game widow (talk) 11:55, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Navbox Template and Wikipoints problems?[]

Two things:

  1. I want to create a dropdown box (where you can press show/hide) but I'm not sure that's possbile with the equipment we have installed on this wiki. If possible, can you install something that would allow creation of a dropdown box (e.g.: lua, etc).
  2. My wikipoints are seem to be messed up. It says that I have Level 40 and 445 Wikipoints today...but I had 60000+ and level 89 yesterday. Everybody's seems effected.

-EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 15:41, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Wikipoints are currently being looked at / overhauled, Gamepedia-wide, so that issue should resolve itself. As for the "drop-down", it really depends on what sort of end result you want. Have you seen the desired effect on another wiki? Could you provide a link? If it's just a question of having show/hide, you only need to wrap whatever you want shown/hidden inside <div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">...</div>Game widow (talk) 18:37, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
What I want specifically is something like this. Also, about that mw-collapsible, is it possible to make the expand be next to the ===Subtitle=== and not on the other side of the page? Like this. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 19:58, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Are you still there? -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 20:12, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, yes, i am. I just had some other stuff to get to. Looking now — Game widow (talk) 22:42, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
So do you just want that exact navbox (give or take actual content) ? or one like it ? A simpler version is found hereGame widow (talk) 22:44, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I'll take a simpler one. Quick question though, on the original one I suggested you can see a "Removed" group, and next to it, a "Pocket Edition only' subgroup. Are subgroups possible with this simpler template? If its's not, no big deal, we can all live without it, but I'm just wondering. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 23:25, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Yep, subgroups are possible with the simpler one — Game widow (talk) 23:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
OK, that template is in place now, we can tweak the colours if need be. I just used white/offwhite and the purple from the headers on the main page. One of my colleagues (Sigilbaram) is looking into the collapsing section headers — Game widow (talk) 00:00, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thank you so much! -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 00:02, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
BTW, the colours are set in Mediawiki:Hydra.cssGame widow (talk) 00:18, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Quick question, how do I add subgroups? Haven't been able to figure out how. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 20:54, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
I think you could create a navbox subgroup inside of a navbox (like this). The only problem is that the color is a bit off. -Sonicwave (talk|c) 21:10, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay, cool thanks! -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 21:14, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

Wikipoints still down, alt to see Gamepedia rank?[]

Wikipoints are still not displaying correctly on my user page. They show up correctly on Special:Wikipoints, however the Gamepedia rank seen on my userpage displays incorrectly. Is there any way to see the legit Gamepedia rank I actually have? Just curious. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 00:38, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

We have a systems meeting later this morning. I will ask again what the status of this is — Game widow (talk) 11:53, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

I got a question. So, yesterday User:MediaMix1 made some edits to some pages. As Special:RecentChanges indicates, he added quite a bit of stuff to the pages. Although yesterday does not show it, he sometimes added over 1,000 bytes to a page.

Although MediaMix1 is trying to be helpful, I find him to be more of a nuisance. A majority of the 1,000s of bytes he adds to the pages are stuff that shouldn't be there. So I have to go through the edit, bit-by-bit, and strip out all the bad stuff, while keeping all of the good stuff. A lot of the time, 75% of his edit is gone. Some of the bad stuff includes things that just shouldn't be on there (such as smiley faces or humor (e.g.: "G3t rekt c00l guns"), or opinion/bias (e.g.:"This mob is dinky"), or maybe just adding uneeded trivia. (Oh, and just an added bonus: I told him to not put biomes in the pictures, but he goes ahead and does it anyway.)

But thats only part of the problem. The main problem is him changing some of the page's formatting. Like chaning "Useful Drops" to "Desirable loot drops", or changing "What to bring" to "What should I bring?" (This wiki does have a rule against using personal pronouns).

This is not the first time someone has gone changed stuff a certain way. The wiki currently has a rule, that in order for a format to be changed, you have to have a consensus. (I know I just added that rule to the style guide today, but I've been meaning to do it for the longest of time). Yeah....

But, I am the sole active admin on this wiki (the other wiki admins rarely come on). So....I'm the guy making all of the rules. Normally, rules are decided by the community of admins (admins make them, but the rest of the community can suggest changes to them (right?). Things like these are to help prevent bias rules - rules favoring certain individuals.

So here I am making the rules by myself. Whats to stop them from being bias? Meaning, a majority of the wiki's formatting was done by me. A lot of them are my ideas (not all of them of course, by a lot of them). So if stop someone else from the changing the format unless there's consensus...and some of these changes I'll never consend to anyway...

I need a second opinion. Thoughts? -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 17:26, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Well, from what you've said here, it sounds like you've put some thought into the rules you have established and they seem sound enough to me. It seems like you would readily question your own rules if someone put forth a reasonable arguement, but this user doesn't seem to have bothered with that. I would not wait around forever for a larger community to appear to vote on stuff. This one user seems like he just doesn't care about the rules of the wiki, so you are well within your right to leave him messages (which it appears you have done). Given that he seems to ignore those, the next step is a ban/block. We usually try temporary bans to begin with, but you've dealt with this user so I trust your judgement. I hope that helps — Game widow (talk) 18:34, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 19:58, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Account case sensitivity?[]

Just a question regarding the case sensitivity of accounts. I was able to log into the same account with same password by with different cases, for example: I was able to log into 'EatingSilencerforBreakfast' and 'EatingSilencerForBreakfast' with the same password, yet their two seperate accounts (different wikipoints, etc). -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 00:42, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure what is going on there, but we have had a few similar reports. I will follow up with our platform team and get back to you — Game widow (talk) 12:16, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
A ticket has been opened to look into this behaviour — Game widow (talk) 18:30, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Login help?[]

I'm having trouble logging in, whenever I enter my username and password, it just returns to the login screen with the password field blank. I know my password hasn't changed because I can login to other curse services, just not gamepedia. - 10:45, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

We did have some server issues yesterday, are things any better today? — Game widow (talk) 11:29, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

IP block?[]

Are you sure you blocked the right IP address? Two different IP addresses edited earlier today, one was a vandal, one was not. You blocked the IP address that wasn't a vandal. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

OOps, sorry then, i'll double check — Game widow (talk) 16:31, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

About donate for Xolova on his Patreon[]

Hi! I have had know about Xolova is low on money, so I have already inform some Chinese people to donate for him on his Patreon. But from now, nobody ask me. So can you help me?
What exactly is it that you need help on? -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 22:07, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
I want to make a collection of people to donate for him on his Patreon, but nobody give me an answer. Because I know that once Xolova get money, he will update quickly.

can I be the admin of the Chinese section[]

Hi, Game widow

I am Chinese so can I be the admin of the Chinese section of this wiki?

I want to help to Translate Wiki.

Thanks!--Angrydog001 (talk) 05:34, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

你可以做一个中文Advent of Ascension Wiki吗? 09:34, 17 September 2017 (UTC)22zhuyansong
We'll see if we can get this arranged. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 10:26, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, and I will try my best. Thank you very much! --Angrydog001 (talk) 12:55, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Right now, there is no Chinese section of this wiki. EatingSilencerforBreakfast, did you want a separate, Chinese version set up, or do you just want to have some Chinese translations on this wiki? — Game widow (talk) 13:01, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Preferably a separate Chinese version, like how the Minecraft wiki has a Chinese version. So that means it would be set up at here, right?. If that makes sense. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 15:57, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes indeed. OK, i'll spin that up and copy over the css, otherwise, it will be completely empty. — Game widow (talk) 16:40, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Alright, the wiki is up, i'll need both of you to log in to it before i can assign rights. — Game widow (talk) 17:07, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Alright, thanks! Quick question though, are the pictures/media and templates shared between the two wikis or are they separate? Meaning if someone on the Chinese wiki uploaded a picturereplacing an exisiting one (e.g.: new picture of Cyclops) would the English wiki also be affected or would it just appear on the Chinese wiki?-EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 23:02, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
The images are shared with the English wiki being the master image store (i.e. images uploaded on the english wiki are available on both, but images uploaded on the Chinese wiki are only available there). Templates are not shared, i copied them over (at least the ones i was aware of) — Game widow (talk) 00:33, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
I am making new pictures for Advent of Ascension Mobs, if I finished I will inform you, and also you can visit the website:虚无世界生物. To view the current new textures mobs! 03:01, 18 September 2017 (UTC)22zhuyansong
Can I be your Chinese translation assistant?我可以成为你的中文翻译人员吗?
Sure! First step, Registering account is the best way to contribute Wiki. 可以。贡献最好的方式首先一步就是注册一个账户。--Angrydog001 (talk) 12:47, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Citation help[]

Hello, I was wondering if you could help understand whats going wrong with this wiki's citations? For example, on this article, you can see at the references section at the bottom that the navbox template is on top of the references. But I want it to be under them. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 01:02, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Also, there is an extra citation link sitting in the same references section, that shouldn't be there, but I don't know how to fix it. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 01:04, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
The navbox appears exactly where you call it, so i moved it above your references call, is that what you wanted? Also, all ref calls should be paired with the text of the actual citation enclosed in the pair of tags: <ref name="refname">text of the citation itself</ref>. The "name=" part is optional, it is only used if you using the same citation multiple times on the same page. The first instance should have the text of the citation, later instances only need the opening and closing tags with nothing between them. — Game widow (talk) 13:23, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

AF error[]

It seems that global filter 37 prevent the user named Jinxia2311 from performing the action errormistakenly. But how can I rollback the actions taken by global filter, please see logs here. Thanks! --Angrydog001 (talk) 12:39, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

I believe the issue was due to the page being very long and also including an external link. In particular, if this user had not made 3 smaller edits prior to trying this one, that would be the expected behaviour. It is not an error, though it does cause problems for new editors. I think i've restored the page he tried to edit. So in future, just remind new editors that they should first make (and save) 3 small edits that do not include any external links. After that, they should have no problem making larger edits. — Game widow (talk) 13:54, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

I will run my bot on chinese wiki via Pywikibot, because I need to do a lot of mechanization edits like text replacement. Could you please changed group membership for Ag001bot from none to bot? Thank you! --Angrydog001 (talk) 15:10, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Done — Game widow (talk) 18:04, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Twitch account merge?[]

Question about Twitch account merge (I'm not sure who to ask so I'll leave it here): so basically my account doubles as an account for the Minecraft forums and an account for this wiki (meaning same account for two websites literally). So if I merge the account with Twitch account on the forums side, will it also merge on the wiki side or will they become separate? -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 00:17, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

I really don't know. I think your best bet would be to ask CrsBenjaminGame widow (talk) 11:29, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Request to fix this issue[]

I can't see the navbox in mobile view, MediaWiki:Mobile.css seems to be something wrong, but I don't know what to do with it. I hope you can fix the issue soon. Thank you! --Angrydog001議(Talk)/誌(Logs)/勛(Contribs) 03:01, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

This is a known issue, and right now, we don't have a total fix for it. One thing we can try is having some code in the navbox template that is specific to mobile. Can you link me to the particular navbox that you want to see ? — Game widow (talk) 15:07, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Sure that is. 😊 --Angrydog001議(Talk)/誌(Logs)/勛(Contribs) 06:41, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

I was wondering if it would be possible to get something like Special:PopularPages, or similar onto this wiki. -EatingSilencerforBreakfast (talk) 00:26, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

We are working on an admin dashboard. Here's a link to our survey, fill it out and add in the kinds of information you'd like to see — Game widow (talk) 02:54, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
