Undead Herald is a passive NPC that spawns naturally in many dimensions.

Spawning[ | ]

Undead Heralds spawn naturally in any dimension with the exception of Nowhere. They will also not spawn in worlds that are marked as a 'superflat' world, and is affected by the doTraderSpawning gamerule.

Mechanics[ | ]

Note: All of the below highlighted values are configurable via a datapack in the roaming_traders.json file.

Every 12000-36000 ticks (10-30 minutes), the game will attempt to spawn 1 roaming npc near each currently logged-in player.

For each player, the game will look for a nearby safe spawn position between 20-64 blocks away and attempts to spawn a roaming trader. If the spawn position is free from obstructions and safe, the trader will spawn and a delay of 8000-12000 ticks (6.67-10 minutes) will be added to the next round of spawns. Every successfully spawned trader will add to the delay, further pushing back the next round.

Behavior[ | ]

Like all other roaming NPCs, Undead Heralds can despawn, and roam freely throughout the world. Their despawn can be prevented by naming them using a name tag.

Trades[ | ]

Undead Heralds are unique in that their available trades vary depending on which dimension the herald is from. Heralds can be transported across applicable dimensions, changing their available trades.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]

An ancient undead entity, cursed to roam the dimensions for eternity.

These heralds are citizens of a long-lost civilisation that established outposts across many dimensions, roaming to establish their faction's dominance. An unfortunately too-effective protection magic originally cast over them to protect them from the varied environments has left them unable to rest, trapped in a never-ending campaign of relevance.

The Undead Herald will trade various banners for coins, with the available stock depending on the dimension they are found in. The banners themselves serve no purpose, and appear to be purely for decoration.

They don't appear to have any actual use for the coins, with the transaction remaining as a reminder of the herald's original purpose.
