Tree Spirits are neutral mobs from the Overworld that disguise themselves as a Dead Tree.
Spawning[ | ]
Tree Spirits spawn naturally in the Overworld. They will only spawn in Forest, Flower Forest, Dark Forest, or Swamp biomes at a Y level of 55 or higher. They will spawn in as a Dead Tree.
They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 0.
Tree Spirits do not despawn on Peaceful difficulty.
Behavior[ | ]
Tree Spirits spend most of their time in a dormant state, where it will not do anything. While dormant, Tree Spirits take the form of three Oak Logs stacked on top of each other, and are called a "Dead Tree".
If a Tree Spirit is attacked while dormant, and the one who attacked it is within 16 blocks, it will retaliate by opening up its top log and releasing Tree Spirit Sprites. The sprites will fly through the air and home in on their target, damaging the target when it makes contact. The player can punch the Tree Spirit Sprite to make it disappear, otherwise it will disappear when it hits something. Once it starts attacking, the Tree Spirit will launch one Tree Spirit Sprites every .75-1.75 seconds, but only if it can see its target, and the target is within 32 blocks of the Tree Spirit. The Tree Spirit Sprite deals magic damage.
On Peaceful difficulty, Tree Spirits will not retaliate for being attacked, no matter what. However, it will still remember that it was attacked, and will begin attacking if the player switches the difficulty off of Peaceful. A similar thing occurs if the player attacks them while in Creative mode, then switches to Survival. If the difficulty is not Peaceful, and the player changes it to Peaceful, then any attacking Tree Spirits will stop attacking, and any Tree Spirit Sprites present on the field will despawn.
If a Tree Spirit Sprite hits another Tree Spirit, the second Tree Spirit will not retaliate against the first.
Tree Spirits remain immobile, even when attacking. They cannot be pushed around by the player or by a fluid. They are solid to entities (the player is capable of standing on one, even when it is attacking) though they are not solid to fluids, meaning water flows through them.
Tree Spirits cannot drown.
Tree Spirits take 25% more damage from fire.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]
“ | Tree Spirits are a unique creature, being neither plant nor monster; rather some blend in-between.
They occur when a burst of Kronic energy is released in a small enough form-factor that it can wholly penetrate a healthy tree. Upon doing so, the tree comes to life, gaining a kind of sentience of its own. Despite its sentience, it doesn't seem too interested in much besides just having a peaceful existence. If attacked, they release pseudo-magical sprites that hunt down the attacker in an act of defence, before going back into hibernation. Notably, they are particularly vulnerable to fire-based damage as would be expected of their heritage. |
