The Scream Shield is almost necessary to kill Banshees effectively and safely. A Banshee can almost instantly kill the player if they do not have one.
In order for the Scream Shield to take effect, it must be in the player's hot-bar. It can be located anywhere in the hot-bar to take effect.
If the player is attacked by a banshee and does not have a Scream Shield, then they will receive Slowness 6, Weakness 6, and Mining Fatigue 6, all for 7.5 seconds. Carrying a Scream Shield mitigates all of these effects.
