Sand Giants are neutral mobs that spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning[ | ]

Sand Giants rarely spawn naturally in the Overworld. They will only spawn in biomes tagged as c:is_sandy.

They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 0.

Behavior[ | ]

Sand Giants start as neutral mobs, they will not attack other targets unless they get attacked first.

When provoked, they will go after their target from up to 40 blocks away. When the target gets close enough to the Sand Giant, the Sand Giant will throw its arms into the air and crash them down, doing damage to the target if the attack connects.

Periodically, Sand Giants will spawn traps that the player will have to avoid.

Trap spawning[ | ]

When the Sand Giant is ready to spawn traps, it will stop moving and bend to the ground. A large whirlwind of sand will form around the Sand Giant as it is spawning the traps.

15 ticks (.75 seconds) after the Sand Giant begins to bend to the ground, the Sand Giant will spawn a maximum of 20 traps around their target. The traps will be spawned within 5 blocks of the target on all axis'. After this initial spawning of traps, the Sand Giant will spawn a single trap directly beneath the target's feet every .5 seconds until it decides to leave its trap spawning state.

The Sand Giant will remain in its trap spawning state for 160 to 240 ticks (8 to 12 seconds). Once the Sand Giant is finished spawning traps, the sand whirlwind will disappear, and it will get up and resume chasing the target like before. The Sand Giant may reenter its trap spawning state again after 300 to 500 ticks (15 to 25 seconds).

When the Sand Giant's health drops below half, traps will spawn beneath the target's feet once every 1.5 seconds regardless of whether or not the Sand Giant is in this trap spawning state. It will still be able to enter its trap spawning state even if its health is below 50%.

Sand whirlwind[ | ]

Sand Giant Whirlwind

A Sand Giant in its trap spawning state. The sandy whirlwind encircles the Sand Giant.

When the Sand Giant is in its trap spawning state, a sandy whirlwind will encircle the Sand Giant. Mobs (and players) that come into contact with the sand whirlwind will receive 4 (♥×2) Mob attack no aggro damage, regardless of difficulty. Projectiles that try to bypass the whirlwind may be deflected.

Trap types[ | ]

There are two types of traps that the Sand Giant can spawn: the Sand Giant Pit Trap and the Sand Giant Spike Trap. When the Sand Giant spawns a trap, there is always a chance for it to be either one of these two trap types.

See the pages for the individual traps for more information about each trap.

Other abilities[ | ]

Sand Giant can walk over blocks and obstacles up to 1.5 blocks high.

Sand Giants cannot be pushed.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]

A huge elemental-like creature dripping in sand and rock, this monster seems to be made from the sand itself rather than the rocks, and instead has picked up rocks in its travels to offer additional structure.

They are usually only found in desert-like areas, and are almost always spotted wandering alone.

While not inherently aggressive, they will retaliate viciously if provoked, creating traps from its own and environmental sand, trapping and impaling enemies with relentless abandon. It is recommended to let these creatures roam in peace, to save a slow and painful death.
