Moondust was used for crafting the Troll Idol to spawn Smash. They were also used for creating all of the Soul Power Tablets. They were dropped by all of the Full Moon Event mobs excluding Terrestrials.
In 3.0, Moondust was renamed to Moonstone and given a new texture, then in subsequent updates all of its original functionality was removed and it was changed to an easter egg item.
