Opteryx are tamable animals that spawn naturally in Precasia.

Opteryx and Opteryx Eggs will spawn on Opteryx Nest features in Precasia.

Behavior[ | ]

Opteryx come in three different forms: Adult, baby, and egg.

Opteryx are passive mobs and will not attack, even if provoked. Like most passive animals, hitting one will cause it to panic and run away.

With the exception of Opteryx Egg, Opteryx will periodically fly around.

Opteryx can be tempted by and will follow players holding Raw Giant Lizard Meat. They can also be bred with Raw Giant Lizard Meat. Breeding two Opteryx together will create an Opteryx Egg.

Opteryx Egg[ | ]

Opteryx Egg

Certain Opteryx will spawn as an egg. Opteryx Eggs are completely immobile and cannot be pushed by entities or fluids. An Opteryx Egg will eventually hatch into a baby Opteryx; the amount of time it takes for an egg to hatch depends on if it spawned naturally in an Opteryx Nest, or if it was spawned from breeding Opteryx.

Opteryx Eggs spawned in a nest will take 1 hour and 20 minutes to hatch, and Opteryx Eggs spawned from breeding will take 3 hours to hatch.

Tamed Opteryx[ | ]

Opteryx Eggs spawned from breeding are considered tamed by the player that bred the Opteryx.

Once a tamed Opteryx grows up into an adult, the player that owns the Opteryx is capable of riding it by right-clicking the Opteryx. While riding, pressing the movement keys will move the Opteryx in the corresponding direction, and holding down the jump key will have the Opteryx fly up, allowing for indefinite flight. Letting go of the jump key will have the Opteryx slowly fall down.

The tamed version of an Opteryx Egg and baby are no different than normal Opteryx, and cannot be ridden.

Opteryx have five hitboxes; 4 green ones and one central white one. Opteryx Eggs do not have extra hitboxes.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]

A large avian creature that has the characteristics of both a bird and a reptile.

It sports large primary claws and talons, but they seem to be used mostly for gripping tall structures as they're a particularly timid animal.

Despite being timid, they are primarily carnivorous, and subsist almost exclusively on the flesh of prey.

Its deceptively strong wings enable it to take flight at will, even when carrying a substantial amount of weight.

Trivia[ | ]

  • The Opteryx is based off of the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur from the late Jurassic period.
