Chompers are hostile melee mobs that spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning[]

Chompers spawn naturally in water in swamp-type biomes in the Overworld.

They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 7.

Behavior[]

Chompers are melee mobs that will follow targets both on land and in water. They will initially attempt to avoid getting into the water where possible, but will go in if they find no other path to their target.

While they do try to avoid water, Chompers retain their full movement speed if they do go into it. This makes them harder to escape than other mobs.

They are aggressive, and will attack nearby players within 16 blocks without provocation. If attacked by another entity, they will retaliate and continue targeting that entity.

Staying outside of their targeting range will prevent them from attacking or targeting entities.

Unique Abilities[]

When a Chomper successfully attacks an entity, it will apply slowness 3 for 1 second, briefly slowing their target.

Chompers gain a significant movement speed boost when locked on to a target. This causes them to be deceivingly quick, and can cause them to easily overwhelm players.

Bestiary Entry[]

Chompers are large quadrupeds with very powerful forelimbs, which they use primarily for very quick movement through both water and on land. Being amphibious, Chompers are happy to live either on land or in the water, however do need to stay hydrated in order to survive.

Chompers will defend their land aggressively, attacking anyone who may approach them. Their two large tusks ensure that whoever they bite will not be getting away easily.
