Chimeras are hostile melee mobs that spawn naturally in the Overworld.

Spawning[edit | edit source]

Chimeras spawn naturally in savannah-type biomes in the Overworld.

They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 7.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Chimeras are melee mobs that will follow targets both on land and in water. They will initially attempt to avoid getting into the water where possible, but will go in if they find no other path to their target.

They are aggressive, and will attack nearby players within 16 blocks without provocation. If attacked by another entity, they will retaliate and continue targeting that entity.

Staying outside of their targeting range will prevent them from attacking or targeting entities.

Unique Abilities[edit | edit source]

When a Chimera successfully attacks an entity, it will apply weakness 3 for 12 seconds, severely weakening them.

Bestiary Entry[edit | edit source]

The aptly named Chimera is a creature with an unfortunate history. At some point in its evolutionary line, the Chimera's ancestor was born with a parasitic twin attached to its tail. Unexpectedly, this parasitic twin turned out to be of great benefit to the Chimera as its additional set of eyes and ears, while still maintaining a connected brain stem allowed the creature to thrive. Over time this evolutionary mistake became more common, eventually causing it to become the default design - through the magic of selective pressure.

As a somewhat expected downside, the additional eyes and ears require more energy to operate, and as such this has caused Chimeras to be constantly hungry and hunting for new food. This, combined with the fact that they are carnivores, means that adventurers should avoid being their next meal by keeping their distance as best as possible.
