Chargers are hostile melee mobs from the Overworld that come in 7 variants.
Spawning[ | ]
The 7 variants of Chargers can all spawn naturally in any Overworld biome with the exception of biomes tagged as neoforge:no_mob_spawns, but each specific variant is only found in certain biomes or locations. See the #Variants section below for information on where each Charger variant spawns.
They will only spawn during the day, and like most other mobs; their spawning can be prevented by placing torches or other lighting blocks nearby to raise the light level above 0.
All Charger variants can also be spawned by a King Charger when it summons reinforcements. The variant spawned by the King Charger is the same variant that would spawn naturally in the location that the King Charger is in.
Since all variants share the same id (aoa3:charger), the player must use the ChargerType NBT to spawn a specific variant of Charger with commands. See the Variants section below for more information.
Behavior[ | ]
All Charger variants are generic melee attackers. They will automatically chase after players and player-owned mobs that are within 12 blocks of them. Once they have started chasing a target, they will not stop chasing the target until said target has died, the Charger has died, or the target has moved over 30 blocks away from the Charger. Chargers summoned by a King Charger will not stop chasing targets until they are over 70 blocks away instead.
When a Charger is attacking something, it runs faster than its normal walk speed.

Variants[ | ]
There are 7 variants of Chargers. For the most part, the variants only differ from one another cosmetically, with the only major difference being the location that the charger variants spawn in. However, the Void variant does have slightly different item drops from the other variants. The King Charger is a distinct mob and isn't consider a variant of Charger.
Each Charger has a ChargerType NBT that is used to determine the variant of Charger. The player can spawn a specific variant with commands by setting the ChargerType NBT to the String value listed in the table below. If the player inputs an invalid ChargerType, it will default to the yellow Charger.

Bestiary Entry[ | ]
“ | One of the most adaptable birds in the overworld. Chargers are a known pest species of large flightless birds that seem intent on flocking towards potential attackers with no regard for safety.
Their long legs and flexible frame allows them great speed and mobility when running across land, beating out even some speedy quadrupeds. The good news is that their mobile prowess is easily offset by their inherent fragility. If confronted by one, it's usually not too hard to dispatch with a few well-aimed hits. Despite this, it is still worth taking caution, as their high speed and sharp beak can quickly overwhelm unsuspecting victims. |
