Bleeding is a harmful status effect that does damage over time.

Information[ | ]

When inflicted, Bleeding does bleed damage over time and causes food exhaustion, at a rate dependent on the level of Bleeding applied. Regardless of the level, the victim will take 0.75 (♥×0.375) bleed damage and gain 5 exhaustion per hit. Damage caused by Bleeding is not affected by armor or enchantments. The rate at which Bleeding does damage is shown in the table below:

Level Time between damage taken (Ticks)
1 100
2 50
3 25
4 12
5 6
6 3
7 1

Note: Due to damage immunity frames, Bleeding damage will cap out at a rate 10 ticks between damage taken. This does not apply to the hunger drain, which is not affected by damage immunity frames and will still operate based on the values seen in the above table.

If one is already inflicted with Bleeding, being inflicted again by an equal or higher level of Bleeding will replace the current Bleeding effect with a new one that is one level higher. For example, getting inflicted with Bleeding while already inflicted with Bleeding I will replace the Bleeding I effect with a Bleeding II effect. This only applies to natural causes of Bleeding- sources like the /effect command do not increase the level.

When the effect becomes replaced, the duration timer will be reset to whatever effect source had the longer duration; e.g.: if the original Bleeding effect lasted for 30 seconds but the new one only lasts for 20 seconds, then the timer will be reset to 30 seconds.

Undead mobs are immune to the Bleeding effect.

Milk cannot be used to remove Bleeding, but an Enchanted Golden Apple can be used instead.
